EXIST is a funding program of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy ( BMWi ). EXIST Research Transfer  supports both the necessary development work to demonstrate the technical feasibility of research-based start-up ideas and the necessary preparations for launching a company. EXIST Research Transfer can finance personnel expenses/costs for a maximum of four staff positions as well as material expenses/costs. Material expenses/costs include, for example, consumer goods, consumables, capital goods, intellectual property rights, market research/market analyses, as well as the awarding of contracts and coaching measures. The expenses/costs for student assistants and material expenses/costs are generally eligible for funding up to a total of €250,000.

The Central Innovation Program for SMEs ( ZIM ) is a nationwide, technology- and sector-neutral funding program. The ZIM aims to sustainably strengthen the innovative strength and thus the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Small and medium-sized enterprises and their collaborating research institutions receive grants for ambitious research and development projects that lead to new products, technical services, or improved production processes. The ZIM also innovation-supporting services ( provision of office space, databases, libraries, market research/market analysis , laboratories, quality labels, testing, and certification services).

With the “Gründung innovativ” , the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy of the State of Brandenburg (MWAE) supports start-ups with innovative business ideas and the takeover of innovative companies in the State of Brandenburg through the ILB. The knowledge and technology transfer of the Investitionsbank Sachsen-Anhalt supports expenditure on innovation-supporting services (provision of databases, libraries, market research/market analysis , laboratories, quality marks, tests and certification for the purpose of developing efficient products, processes and services) and offers a grant of up to 75% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of 200,000 euros within three years.
